Oculus

INTRODUCTION

You understood the theory pertaining to parallel universes. The concept that an infinite number of alternate realities are spun out to reflect the web of possibilities not explored for every decision ever made. It wasn’t until you found this talisman, the Oculus, that it meant anything to you. But what else could it be? The window it creates, out of thin air, shows you a world so similar to our own, but also strikingly different, it must be one of the many parallels. Your mission is clear, you have to create a record of all that you have seen. You have to find out what it all means.

YOUR FAMILIAR

The first time the Oculus opens a viewing window for you it will present your Familiar. Your Familiar is the individual who will be the focus of all of your future viewings. At the start you will know nothing about them. As you record events, more information will become apparent.

At some point you will realize that you are aware of there name. That is one of many connections you will make. Record it on the Familiar record table.

As you watch your Familiar and record the events of their life you will begin to recognize what they excel at. Record these Abilities on the Familiar record table as well. Place each Ability next to the number that reflects their proficiency. In the future you will add the number connected to the ability to Chance of Success rolls.

Choose and record your Familiar’s abilities when a critical challenge arises and they need a proficiency to succeed. Abilities should be based on what you have learned about your Familiar so far.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • A Notebook (The Oculus Journal)
  • A Pencil
  • A 20-Sided Die (The Oculus)
  • The Oculus Instruction Manual

OPERATING THE OCULUS

When you want to begin a viewing, roll the Oculus (your 20-sided die) and consult the Viewing Chart to learn what the Focus is. The Focus is the first step of many that opens up your creative power to follow and record the viewing.

Your intuition is the key to operating the Oculus The Oculus operates through your creative power, so begin recording events as soon as you have the focus. Whatever comes to mind is what is actually occurring. It is the act of recording it that allows the viewing to take shape and move forward. If the viewing does not become clear you attempt to clarify it by using the Lens table, which may give you a clearer picture.

YOUR FIRST VIEWING

When you begin for the first time you may want to make a few notes about what you see. What does your Familiar look like? What is around them? What can you tell about the world or environment around them? These notes will provide a base to build on for future viewings.

During the viewing, if the success of your Familiar's efforts face a reasonable possibility of failure, consult the Oculus again according to the Chance of Success Chart and proceed according to the results.

VIEWING

When you are viewing the alternate dimension you have a specific task to complete: Figure out what's happening and why it is important. The Oculus does not always show things in chronological order. It shows what matters, when it matters. Record anything that will help you complete that task, and be sure to answer both questions at the end of a viewing.

FADING SCENE

If you find your interest in a scene waning, that is the Oculus telling you that the moment of importance has passed. Conclude the viewing here and start a new one if you wish.

TRANSCENDENCE POINTS

The longer you utilize the Oculus, the more influence you will have over the life of your Familiar, and the events surrounding them. Eventually you will start to receive psychic feedback which will bleed back into our world. As you go about your daily life you may come across pictures, quotes, or other items that seem to have some connection to the recordings you have made. Collect these items in your Oculus Journal. For each item collected you will receive 1 Transcendence Point. You may spend any number of accrued Transcendence Points to your Familiar’s Success Rolls, deducting the points spent from your total. In this way you can influence the events of the world and life you our viewing. You may collect items that are related to any viewing, and some viewing may have many items connected to them.

SHARED VIEWINGS

You are not the only person in possession of an Oculus. Should you should meet with others, you may attempt a shared viewing. Each viewer rolls their Oculus, the highest result is the one with the strongest signal and begins the session. Continue as you would with a standard viewing, but share it out loud rather than recording it in your Oculus Journal.

Each viewer possesses 3 Interrupt Points. 1 point may be used to take possession of a scene. The Interrupter must share how their Familiar is connected to the scene currently playing out., and how they have been influencing the events that have already occurred, and where their influence is headed as the scene moves forward. Familiars may not be aware of one another’s existence, and influence between them may occur by chance and serendipity.

Viewers not involved with a scene may award Interrupt Points from an unlimited supply to those who are to reward strong viewings.

If 2 or more Familiars interact, the viewer connected with each Familiar explains the actions and reactions accordingly.
